Cougars Topple Patriots in Season Opener

The JV Basketball Cougars got their season off to a smashing start tonight with a 23-16 victory over the Ridgefield Patriots! The Cougars thrived on balance tonight - nine of our thirteen dressed players were able to get on the scoring books!

Things got off to a bit of a rocky start for the boys today when Ridgefield scored quickly on their first possession and the Cougars couldn't seem to buy a bucket. However, Aidan Grant calmed things down with a beautiful mid-range jumper. Even so, by the end of the end of the first quarter, the Cougars trailed 8-4.

This was where the Cougars turned things around on defense. The boys shut Ridgefield out completely in the second quarter behind some tremendous defense from hustle experts Parker Griggs and Dylan Reid, and after a couple of key baskets by forwards Palmer Bowen and Kai Gokgol-Kline, the Cougars held a 9-8 lead at the half.

After half, the Cougs got hot. Griff Stallmeyer fearlessly drained a deep three pointer, and not to be outdone, guard Matt Visokey netted a tricky three-point runner just after. With the lead built up now, it was all about defense and rebounding. The boys stepped up big time, and when the clock struck zero in the fourth quarter, the Cougs were on top, 23-16.

Congrats, boys, but don't get complacent! We've got lots of rebounding and press breaking to practice. Here's to a great start to the year - have a wonderful break, everybody!
