The new scoreboard crafted by Mr. Lawler's Woodshop class was looking mighty fine at the end of today's matchup with Ridgefield Academy, as it displayed a 14-7 victory for the home team. Yet again, the Cougars won with defense. Today, the boys held the opposing team to a season-low point total.
The Cougars got things going early - Hudson Sonesson intercepted a ball in the endzone on the very first possession for RA, and then the Cougars marched all the way down the field for a hard fought score. Townsend LeConey lobbed up a beautiful corner route to Nathan "Moss" Roth who high-pointed the ball between at least two defenders to put the Cougars up 6.
However, RA came right back down the field and scored a quick touchdown of their own, and after their one-point conversion, the Cougars found themselves down one. On the next several possessions, the Cougars ran into a tightly packed Patriot zone, which forced multiple redzone interceptions. The Cougars were not able to break back into the endzone until the second half, when Miles Chandor connected with Nathan Roth for a full-field go ball touchdown. Dylan Svenson was reliable all day in the middle field, and after the touchdown, he added an important two point conversion for the Cougars, putting NCCS back up 14-7.
On the final RA possession of the game, the Cougars defense held strong, and Nathan Roth intercepted an attempted seam route across the middle, putting an exclamation point on the Cougars third straight W.
Two more games remain in the year - we shall see just how long this streak can go!
