First Graders Celebrate the Lunar New Year

Country School first graders celebrated the Lunar New Year with a vibrant assembly featuring a dragon parade, fan and ribbon dances, songs, and a skit. The entire event was led and orchestrated by Music & Movement Teacher Jennifer Thiemann, who guided students through the performances and helped bring this beloved tradition to life.
Dressed in traditional red and gold attire, students shared insights into the 12 zodiac symbols, highlighting that 2025 is the Year of the Snake. As part of the festivities, students paraded a colorful papier-mâché dragon through the Lower School halls. The dragon head, originally created several years ago under the leadership of Visual Arts Teacher Karen Wappler, continues to bring joy and excitement to this annual celebration. This year, first graders contributed to the tradition by making the fabric tail of the dragon, carefully attaching the fringe and walking underneath it as they paraded through the hallways of the Welles Building.
