Sonnets, Smiles & Bragging Rights

Last Friday, the Upper School students came together for the Sonnet Challenge, a creative and spirited competition where every seventh, eighth, and ninth-grade Advisory crafted and performed their own ode. From heartfelt to hilarious, the sonnets celebrated a range of subjects, including Mrs. McAndrews’ dog and the talents of basketball player LeBron James.
Each advisory selected representatives to recite their creations at the divisional gathering, where their poetic talents were met with plenty of laughter, applause, and admiration. The results? The Lundquist Advisory took the top spot in the Limerick Challenge. In the Ode category, LeBron James claimed victory, with Gimli coming in a close second. For the Sonnet Challenge, both the Lundquist and Carroll advisories earned top honors, sharing the bragging rights for their outstanding work.

A special thanks goes out to our student judges, who evaluated each performance based on adherence to rhyme and meter, while also awarding bonus points for flair and originality (and occasionally showing a little favoritism toward their own advisories!).

Congratulations to all of our poets for their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm—it was a morning to remember and a wonderful celebration of the power of words!
