Five New Canaan Country School Students Named Teens to Watch

According to Moffly Media, the teens share certain character traits, “They are all bright, talented and incredibly hardworking,” which set them apart. “This group of teens is likely to continue to accomplish some pretty amazing things.”

Lindsay Ferretti ’19 graduated with academic honors from Marymount School of NY where she was Vice President of The Met Club, exploring the Metropolitan Museum on Friday afternoons; represented the school as an Admission Ambassador and was on the varsity lacrosse, tennis and cross-country teams.

She is also the first female to have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in what had up until recently been known as Darien Boy Scout Troop 219. (The organization has changed its name to Scouts BSA to reflect its policy change allowing girls to join separate, gender-specific troops.) Lindsay also received the BSA Order of the Arrow and was inducted into the Scouting National Honor Society. Having graduated from the BSA program in 2021, she now serves as the troop's Assistant Scoutmaster.

Separately, Lindsay has also pursued a passion to become a firefighter, passing the written and physical exams and volunteering regularly at the Noroton Heights Fire Department, as a first responder. She was named a 2021 Young Woman of Distinction by the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk in 2021 and is soon to be announced as a Teen to Watch by Moffly's Darien, New Canaan & Rowayton Magazine. In addition to her work as a community volunteer, she spent  the summer running, listening to podcasts, studying Engineering Biomedical Systems at Brown University's pre-college program and currently attends Hobart College.

 

Amanda Miller ’19 graduated with academic honors from Berkshire School and received the Spirit of Berkshire Award, The Lawrence Thomas Piatelli Prize (to the student whose work ethic, dedication to nobility and gracious living, competitive spirit and heart most closely resemble the actions of Berkshire’s former headmaster) and The Anna S. Barrasch Prize (unselfish interest in people and loyalty). An accomplished athlete, Amanda was named captain of the varsity field hockey and squash teams and received ALL-NEPSAC recognition in field hockey (2022) and ALL-NEPSAC recognition in squash (2019-2020). Athletic awards she earned recently include the George S. Damerel Cup (Most Valuable Player, Squash) and the Ellis Trophy for Sportsmanship and Spirit (Field Hockey). Amanda was also elected a school prefect and served as the head of the school’s tour guides. She currently attends Colby College.

 

Seth Yoo ’19 graduated with academic honors from the Brunswick School where he received the Thomas A. Shields Mathematics Award, the John Van Atta History Prize, and the Kulukundis Cup for having the highest academic standing (GPA). Additionally, Seth was the co-editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, class valedictorian, captain of the varsity cross country team and a member of the math team that took first place in the Fairfield County Math League. Seth currently attends Amherst College.

 

Current eighth-grader Hunter Harper and fifth-grader Keira Cullen were recognized as student athletes. Hunter has played on top ice hockey teams in both Vermont and Connecticut and most recently was selected to play with the USA Hockey Team New England Development Camp which serves as a feeder for the USA Olympic Team and the NHL. Keira, a squash player currently competing in the Girls Under 11 division, won a 2021 Junior Championship Tour Tournament (reserved for the top 32 players in the country) and placed second in the US Open Junior Championship (best junior players in the world). Keira says, “I have a particular interest in learning more about climate change and space exploration and last summer I went to a program to learn how to use computers to design rockets.”

 

New Canaan Country School graduates have a notable history of being recognized. In 2021, Audrey Magnusen ’18, Jack Johnson ’18, Maggie Ruvinsky ’19 and Amitav Nott ’19 were honored as New Canaan Teens to Watch while in 2020, Sydney Coffield '18 was featured in Stamford Magazine, Arjun Dayal '18 in Greenwich Magazine and Olivia Sheridan '17 made the list in New Canaan, Darien & Rowayton Magazine.

In 2018, Alexandra Truwit '15 and Cam Raker '16 were named "Teens to Watch" by New Canaan, Darien & Rowayton Magazine. In 2017, Bella Bean ’14 and John Fox ’13 both made the list in New Canaan, Darien & Rowayton Magazine. The two went on to attend University of Virginia after impressive high school achievements at Brien McMahon High School and Brunswick School, respectively.
