Sarah Irwin Named New NCCS Board Chair

Newly appointed Board President Sarah Irwin presided over the New Canaan Country School Annual Meeting, Oct. 1. At the virtual gathering, about the resilience of the school community at this time.
“In true Country School fashion, we find ourselves adapting to meet the moment. In many ways, that is entirely appropriate, as throughout its history, our school has earned its reputation for educational leadership by demonstrating remarkable agility, innovation and resilience. In every era, Country School has managed to deliver upon its essential mission, even as it evolved and rose to meet the challenges of its time. In so doing, the school has educated and empowered generations of students to meet the challenges of their own time. That has never been more true than it is today. We are witnessing in real time the agility and resilience of our community, our faculty and staff and our children.”

Ms. Irwin thanked parent volunteers for their dedication to the school and the entire community for its robust participation in the Annual Fund and capital campaign.

“Thanks to the generosity of families who came before us, we are built for this moment— we are fortunate to have the resources to make a truly exceptional program possible, and particularly fortunate that we can make the significant investments required to accomplish this in our current environment,” said Ms. Irwin.

A New Canaan resident and school parent, Ms. Irwin took the helm of the NCCS Board of Trustees in July. She worked in marketing at Sotheby’s and Publicis before pursuing an M.S. at the Bank Street College of Education.
