Cougars Outlast Tigers in Rainy Day Opener

Welcome to football season everybody, and what an opening day it was! In the Thursday afternoon rain, the Cougars defeated a persistent GCDS squad on the final play to begin the season with a victory.

Things got off to a smashing start when the Cougars marched down the field on their opening possession. Quarterback Townsend LeConey's passes were on a rope and on the money all day, and this drive was no exception. After a Nathan Roth touchdown, the Cougars led 7-0.

However, the rest of the first half would be hard fought. GCDS marched down for a tying touchdown, and on their next possession, they looked for a quick touchdown to take the lead before half. But, the Cougars had other plans. Miles Chandor intercepted the ball with five seconds go, and after a quick timeout, the Cougars dialed up a quick "Hail Mary" moonshot. Our prayers were answered by Nathan Roth, who brought in his second (of three) touchdowns on the day in one of the craziest plays we may see all year.

This ended up being the deciding play. The Cougars and the Tigers swapped touchdowns in the second half, but thanks to Sammy Wagner's deflection near the end zone on the final play of the game, the Cougars finished the game on top, 19-13.

Thanks everybody for coming out - we will see you next week!
