Shofar Announces Rosh Hashanah in Lower School

The shofar was sounded at Country School’s Lower School assembly signaling the coming of Rosh Hashanah. Ninth grader Gabriel Byan played the traditional musical instrument made of a ram’s horn which announces the Jewish New Year. Watch this video of the shofar demonstration.

“On Rosh Hashanah, the shofar is our alarm,” said one student at the assembly. “It asks us to become fully aware. It calls each of us to pay total attention and to start the New Year as the best person we can be. The children also sang “An Apple Dipped in Honey” and read stories about the holiday in their classes.
