Country School Welcomes New Faculty

New Canaan Country School welcomes several new faculty members this year. The new teachers arrive at Country School after teaching at independent schools across the Fairchester and the Tri-State region.
“Our children will be in excellent hands,” says Interim Head of School Peter O’Neill “We are fortunate to have attracted such a talented and skillful group of teachers.” Mr. O’Neill joins Country School for one year until Rob Macrae, the newly hired permanent Head of School takes the helm next year.
 
Country School welcomes:
 
Emily Anglund-Nellen will join the second-grade team; she has taught various elementary grades throughout the country, most recently at the Cathedral School in New York City. She holds a B.A. from Smith College and an Ed.M. from Harvard School of Education.
 
Chantal Angelis will teach Kindergarten through fourth grade Physical Education and coach Middle and Upper School sports. Chantal has a B.A. and M.A. from Lehigh University and was a Physical Education teacher, coach and, most recently, athletic director at The Stanwich School in Greenwich, Conn.
 
Ellen Baer, who has her Masters from the Eastman School of Music and BA from University of Michigan, comes to us from Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School where she taught music. She will teach Grade 6 music classes with Andy Tyson as well as instruct in both the Lower and Upper Schools.
 
Hayley Bloom, our new third-grade teacher, has taught Kindergarten through third grades at Greens Farms Academy and Old Greenwich School in Greenwich, CT. She holds a B.A. from Connecticut College and a M.A. in Teaching from Manhattanville College.
 
Lindsay Frey will teach Middle School science. A graduate of Bucknell University (BA), Columbia University (M.S.) and Pace University (M.S. Ed), she most recently taught science and was an advisor at The Hewitt School. 
 
Natalie Lin will teach ninth-grade Mandarin and assist in our clubs and activities programs. Natalie worked for three years at Greenwich Academy, where she started the Mandarin program, and spent the last year working in a Denver-area public school.
 
Christie Lundquist will teach French and be an advisor in the eighth grade. She comes to us from Stanwich School and time overseas in Italy.
 
Leslie Spalding, who has his BS and MBA degrees from Universidad Fidelitas in Costa Rica, will teach a section of Grade 5 Spanish and a Spanish class in the Upper School this year. In addition to his classroom duties, he will coach in the Upper School. Leslie taught and coached for 10 years at The Nightingale-Bamford School.
 
Erin Visconti will assist Chantal Detlefs in teaching first through fourth grade science. Erin holds a degree in Environmental Studies from St. Lawrence University and was an Intern at Teton Valley Community School and a Field Instructor at the Teton Science School in Jackson, Wyo.
 
In addition to our new faculty members, Country School welcomes 15 new apprentices who work closely with lead teachers to provide instruction. The Apprentice Teacher Training Program at New Canaan Country School provides “on the job” training for individuals interested in becoming elementary and middle school teachers.
