Technology

New Canaan Country School is committed to technology integration throughout the curriculum. At Country School, technology provides our students with essential tools that 'challenge students to question, to think, to collaborate and to act with integrity.' Teachers use technology to enhance curricular content and expand our students’ global connections as they develop skills for the 21st century.

Students in the Lower School have access to iPads that are used for a wide range of activities, from research to writing, keyboarding to coding. Access to iPads begins in Kindergarten, One to One access to iPads begins for students in first grade, and integrated technology classes start in first grade and continue until ninth grade.  Formal technology, maker, and coding classes are also offered in the Middle School at the fifth and sixth grade level.  By sixth grade, technology is incorporated into the curriculum. Country School provides students in the Middle School with classroom iPads and sixth grade students bring their own Mac laptop.  Upper School students are required to bring their own Mac laptops. Integrated display units are mounted in every academic classroom.

The New Canaan Country School faculty views technology as a transparent learning tool. Faculty and staff have access to an array of technological tools, including laptop, iPads, digital cameras, HD video cameras, professional software and integrated databases. Country School also has a full-time Director of Academic Technology who works directly with teachers and students to develop integrated curricular projects and solve technical problems. Additionally, the school has a knowledgeable technology staff who monitors the school’s technology infrastructure and is always available to offer technical assistance to students, teachers, administrators and staff. The goal for everyone at Country School is to use technology as a tool to enhance the learning process and to teach our students in compelling ways as we prepare them for higher levels of learning.
